CHAPTER INFORMATION

In 1953 National TROA's bylaws made provision for the affiliation of local chapters with National TROA. By 1983 there were more than 400 local, state and regional organizations affiliated.

The first organizational meeting of the present Toledo Area Chapter, TROA, occurred 31 May 1983. The Chapter received its charter early in 1984. COL. William Bondy served as chairman of the first meeting, and COL. Don Ziemke became the Chapter's first president. From the forty officers who attended the first meeting, the Chapter has grown to over 150 members in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan. The Toledo Area Chapter membership year begins January 1st of each year.

When National changed their name to the “Military Officers Association of America”, Toledo followed with a name change.  As of 1 January 2003 our new name is “Toledo Area Military Officers Association of America”.  The name change is official as we have an approval of the change in our charter by the state of Ohio.(We are charted in the state of Ohio)

The six Ohio chapters include: Toledo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Ohio Western Reserve. They are independent self-governing and self-supporting organizations making up the Ohio Council of Chapters.

As a group, we meet every Tuesday at Charlie’s Restaurant at 6945 W. Central Avenue at 11:30am for lunch. The Executive Board meets at 12:30pm on the last Tuesday of each month at Charlie’s following lunch.  All members are welcome.

General Meetings, which usually include a guest speaker, are held quarterly (except July and August) as announced in the newsletter.

The Chapter's newsletter alerts members to Chapter events, military events and happenings which may affect you and your family.

The Chapter regularly supports the ROTC/JROTC programs at Bowling Green State University, The University of Toledo, and Springfield High School. Each year MOAA Medals are presented to distinguished third year cadets, and Gold Bars are presented to each senior ROTC cadet at the time of commissioning.
